SSDL students win at SSI

The third annual Symposium on Space Innovations was held on Nov 17 and Nov 18 at Georgia Tech. It was a well attended event with over 300 academics, professionals, and government leaders that highlighted recent innovations in space science and technologies through a combination of technical presentations, panel discussions, guest speakers, and poster presentations.

Headlining the event was former NASA Administrator and retired Marine Corps General Charles F. Bolden, Jr., whose keynote talk, "The Diplomatic Power of Space Exploration" reminded listeners that building the space program of tomorrow is both an awesome power and an awesome responsibility.

On Nov 17, there was a poster presentation session for students to highlight their work in the field of space. SSDL's VERNE team presenting four posters were given the first place at this event. The teams were (1) System and Mission Design, (2) Drill Design Considerations for Use on Europa, (3) VERNE Thermal Management System and (4) Science System for VERNE.

Another SSDL team presenting for TARGIT was awarded an honorable mention award for their poster "Design and Manufacturing of a Semi-Autonomous CubeSat Inflation Tank".
